Video: this is how to start a Bentley 4.5 Blower

This Bentley 4.5 Blower from Historic Competition Services is one of the stars of Capital Cars & Classics at the 23rd and 24th of april. When we visited the Belgian company we asked to start this “fastest lorry in the world” with its 220bhp.

Back in the day, The last series of Bentley 4.5 Litres were made with the Blower spec “Heavy crank” engine. When you ordered one, you could have the option of a “Blower”. Despite 50 others, the first owner of this car didn’t choose that option because he apparently felt the fuel economy was more important to him. This 4.5 litre rolled out of the factory in 1930 and was fitted with the correct Townshend / Vandenplas Le Mans type body in 1965. In 1985, the supercharger was fitted and the car stayed like this to date. These modifications are well documented and were done exactly and correctly. Driving the car is a bliss and to start it doesn’t take you more than a few seconds. The last owner enjoyed it for over 30 years and both raced and rallied all over the world.

 

 

 

 

This Bentley is very reliable hence the many rally’s it did over the years. However It comes with the original toolkit from the factory and lots of spares you might need on a rally. The car is fully matching numbers and one of the finest examples on the market.
